Gift Horse 03:53
We choke on words we preach We choke on words we preach through lips that quiver softly A frightened waste of thoughts and truths we never could speak Break stride, live right, take all your people with you Shine light, so bright, those shadows fall before you Life, hope, time – all the things that we’ve been given Heart, guts, fight – all the things that we’ve been missing We change when we seek peace We change when we seek peace through crimes of former glory A make-shift core belief of lies we never could speak Get high, take flight, smash through what’s made to measure Set mind, in line, with what you really need to Life, hope, time – all the things that we’ve been given Heart, guts, fight – all the things that we’ve been missing All awake from pressure – all arrive with pride All abuse we sever – all alive we cry Life, hope, time – all the things that we’ve been given Heart, guts, fight – all the things that we’ve been missing

The War is Over (free) 05:20
Today – we stand our ground For the hearts and minds of those that won’t stand down We change – for no one So the writing on the wall stays red for none – for none The war is over – dead bodies stacked on lies they told us The end is coming – we rise when we fall Tonight – we hang our heads With a shiver cold from those we can not hear We break – for no one So the flowers on the graves stay still for none – for none The war is over – dead bodies stacked on lies they told us The end is coming – we rise when we fall To tell the truth, never thought I’d be here The air is sweeter now that the smoked has cleared To tell a lie, never thought I’d survive But light will always shine We waste our life – we fight with time We choke our needs – with hands of greed We lose our minds – we lash out blind We can’t speak up – we can’t breathe in We can’t breathe in, we can’t breathe in, we can’t breathe in

This I Know 03:12
Stones bloody bones with no concern for why they’re thrown Hate is hate, love is love, life is life – This I Know Sunny days shine brighter still when all our cups are full Seize the day, all is well, be here now – This I Know Stop the hate they spin – make amends for it Say to hell with it – and take the long way home Mouths full of broken glass can’t swallow patience whole Lose yourself, laugh again, lead the way – This I Know Say what you mean, mean what you say and stay the course Work it out, speak your mind, be the change – This I Know Take time, breath, reach out – hold your ground Make time, reach, hold on – give yourself (Take. The. Long. Way. Home) Take time, breath, reach out – hold your ground Make time, reach, hold on – give yourself (Take. The. Long. Way. Home)

We won’t forget it – how it felt Was never meant to – be so good Broke through the silence – within our doubts There for each other – there for the cause Never knew what we wanted, but oh no, we were never lost Through thick and thin we ruled the world alright from Brewster Drive Had nothing but each other, it was the world with us on top Through thick and thin we ruled the world alright from Brewster Drive So cold already – memory fires Lit with aggression – burned with desire Safe in our haven – strength in ourselves Built to protect us – can’t tear it down Never knew what we wanted, but oh no, we were never lost Through thick and thin we ruled the world alright from Brewster Drive Had nothing but each other, it was the world with us on top Through thick and thin we ruled the world alright from Brewster Drive Times come and go but we leave our impression Times come and go but we take inspiration Alone, we grieve the days we take for granted Today, we stand on grounds we shook together Never knew what we wanted, but oh no, we were never lost Through thick and thin we ruled the world alright from Brewster Drive Had nothing but each other, it was the world with us on top Through thick and thin we ruled the world alright from Brewster Drive Thank you for being there – Thank you for being there - Thank you for being here

We Died Here 04:12
That two-car garage packed from floor to ceiling and wall to wall Stacks of boxes on those shelves you installed But loaded light with shallow desires of deeper pockets There’s nothing of substance here they cried As you divert your gaze to avoid their eyes But that’s alright, that’s alright Cause you can’t see them anymore – see them anymore That flooded basement won’t dry – not in a thousand years Things float down there, not weighed down by honour or guilt It’s just a matter of time until someone drowns there We can’t fix these leaks without hate You can’t lose your pride to think straight You can’t love, you can’t love Love these ghosts anymore – ghosts anymore Don’t be afraid – we died here – we don’t live here anymore You walk down that dimly lit hall Where those crooked pictures fell when you put your fist through the wall The attic ladder’s missing more than a few rungs And the draft from the door still reeks of carnal failings We don’t forgive you they hissed in disguise As you crash to your knees and rake blood from the sky But that’s just it, that’s just it We can’t bleed anymore – bleed anymore Don’t be afraid – we died here – we don’t live here anymore Convictions - your last rites Ring cold and keep us forever Eviction – of past life Can’t break the bond not forgiven Destruction – of all lies

about

‘We Died Here’ (EP) was mostly recorded at the band’s small, yet functional, home studio. BOSSES really believes in the DIY model and attempts to do everything themselves as much as humanly possible. Most recording and all mixing was done in-house by James Crowle. Drums were recorded at Rain City by the very talented Mariessa McLeod and the EP was mastered by Mr. Matt Roach. If ‘Mutant Tailings’ was meant as a glimpse into the diversity of BOSSES writing, ‘We Died Here’ definitely has a more cohesive tone to it.
‘We Died Here’ represents a very unique time and place in the world and aims to reflect the ups and downs over the past year. Although often complimented by heavy instrumentation, the lyrics and messaging on this EP remind us all to see where we come from, be where we are, and project ourselves forward with positivity and hope.

about

BOSSES Vancouver, British Columbia

Shaped by friendships forged in Vancouver BC’s notorious Punk Rock community, BOSSES pays homage to the kind of loud, shouty, and sweaty sounds you’d expect to hear emanating from your favourite East-Van watering hole.

A signature that sound flirts heavily with punk rock, and borrows plenty from a wide spectrum of other “brash” guitar-based kinks.
